In “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment”, the theme is that you should live your life to the fullest. In “the Minister’s Black Veil”, the theme is that everyone has a metaphorical veil on them until they do something to remove it.

In “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment”, the theme of the story is to not take what you have for granted. The characters in the story did not want to stop drinking the magic elixir because it made them younger. When the vial broke that was containing the elixir, it symbolized that life must end and everyone will die in the end.

“The Minister’s Black Veil” and “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment”, Nathaniel Hawthorne made the stories have common themes. As a talented as he was, Hawthorne could make his stories use themes that other writers most likely could not. Hawthorne’s main theme revolved around the topic of sin. “The Minister’s Black Veil” had a theme of hiding behind something whereas “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment” the theme is more about old age and desperation.

Both of these stories have a theme and a message to show the readers. The Minister’s Black Veil and Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment can show the meaning behind an inanimate object. Both can be similar when compared to a symbol by the rose given its life back from the fountain of youth water, and the black veil worn by the minister.

Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote two incredible stories titled, Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment and The Minister’s Black Veil. In both stories there seems to be a reoccurring theme, based on characterization and symbolism in the characters. Mr. Hawthorne intended to create morals in his stories as he tries to convey good messages throughout his parables. In Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment, he teaches that there is no chance of going back to youth and we should appreciate ourselves as we are, living the way we are supposed to, day by day with normalcy. In The Minister’s Black Veil, the main theme is that everyone has a secret sin that is hidden from all others. There is no denying that fact that everyone has a secret sin.

In the stories “The Minister’s Black Veil” and “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment,” the message of the stories are both alike but also different. In both of the stories, they both had to do with living life to the fullest. Also, that you shouldn’t regret anything you do because in the long run, it might not matter if you did something your regret or not.

The stories “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment” and “The Minister’s Black Veil” both hold a hidden message that is in fact similar. They both pertain to living life without faltering. “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment” consisted of the theme that you should live life without having any regrets, and not wasting it doing ridiculous and unfulfilling things. The older people in this story expressed their greed with finding youth again throughout the story by longing for a beverage that could make them relive their younger years, which shows that their younger years were not fulfilling to them.

The theme that Nathaniel Hawthorne plays out in each of the stories is a little different. Each story has somewhat of the same message the reader can receive, but it is portrayed in a different way. In “Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment,” many characters build up the theme of the story. In “The Minister’s Black Veil,” the main character, Mr. Hooper, is the one that sets up the theme for the story.

The themes that Nathaniel Hawthorne used in both stories are different. In the story The Minister’s Black Veil the theme is that humankind is universally afflicted with seven deadly sins pride, covetousness, lust, envy, anger, and sloth. In the story Dr. Heidegger’s experiment it talks about how these old four people drink the water of youth and then they become young. Then after they don’t become young anymore and go back to being old. The four people wish they could go back to being young again but they can’t.

In the stories that Hawthorne has presented to us there are some similarities and differences in the stories. He talks about themes in the story of Dr. Heidegger’s experiment such as there will always be death and you cannot do anything about it. In The Minister’s Black Veil, it teaches you that we all have secret sin and one day all of your sin will be known to god shown in front of you.

In both stories The Ministers Black Veil and Dr. Heidegger’s experiment Nathaniel Hawthorne uses theme and conveys said theme throughout his stories in his characters, setting, and the stories plot. This theme from personal views is displayed as a very disturbed, mysterious theme. Both these stories share similar comparisons and details.

Nathaniel Hawthorne was a very talented writer who wrote many wonderful stories. He wrote “Dr.Heidegger’s Experiment”, which was a story about a doctor who gave three of his colleagues water from the Fountain of Youth, who then became young again, but only for a short period of time. They tried to retain all the information they’ve learned in their life while trying to become young again, but it didn’t work. Dr. Heidegger was the one who learned a lesson that day, while the three still wanted to find the Fountain of Youth. In “The Minister’s Black Veil”, Mr. Hooper walks around town wearing a black veil. All of the townspeople are scared of him and his mask, being afraid of the reason why he wore it. He tries to explain to them and teach them that everyone has black veils and wears them until they die. Both of these stories are excellent stories to read that can teach you a lesson.

In the ministers black veil, the theme portrayed is that he's trying to hide himself. The minister shocked many when he came out with the veil on and come to find out the veil symbolized something that happenes in his past. In Dr. H's experiment he invited 4 people to him study and explains to them that the water he has can make them young again and they apl agree you drink the water, one thing leads to another they decide they don't want to drink the water again. The veil and the rose symbolize a past event and i feel hawthorne made the two pieces similar while writing and reading
