The selection “The World on the Turtle’s Back” states the twins “represented two ways of the world which are in all people”: the ‘straight mind’ and the ‘crooked mind.’ You are to write a short essay in which you agree or disagree with this view of human nature. In your first paragraph, you must state your position, and use examples from the story. When providing an example, make sure to include the page number. In the second paragraph you must address why those with an opposing view are misguided. Again provide examples from the story or from your own experience.

I do agree with this view on human nature. Some people's personality's make them do everything perfect, and how everyone else would. Then some people do things their own way, which may be harder. They are just born stubborn. Like when the pregnant wife wanted her husband to get bark and roots off the Great Tree.(p.23) He told her no because he knew it was wrong to pick from the tree, but when the pregnant wife fell from the Sky-World she grabbed the roots from the tree.

I disagree with Hayley DeLong's argument. She states "They are just born stubborn." Nobody is born stubborn. People's personalities are created based on their life experiences.

Although i agreed with the prompt also, i do disagree that people are born stubborn. During life they figure out weather they are crooked or straight. 9/27/2015 08:36:13 am
I disagree with this view on human nature. No one has a completely straight or crooked mind. All people have a mix of the two. The ratio between straight and crooked may differ between each person, but even the most benevolent person has had a crooked thought in their life. The grandmother of the two twins even displays this aspect. On page 44, it is show that the grandmother cared for the crooked twin even though she had a mostly straight mind. Also the right handed twin, who was supposed to be completely straight, commted a unquestionably crooked act by killing his grandmother (pg. 44).

I agree with Nathan that no person is either all good or all bad. They have a choice to be good or bad and are able to switch between goodness and evil, so they both exist within the person.

I disagree with this view on human nature. I disagree because not everyone is straight and never messes up and crooked and never does anything good. Everyone is bound to mess up in their lifetime. Bad people can change their ways and become good. Also good people could have a traumatic event in their lifetime and do something bad. One should never be labeled the straight or the crooked. In the story The World on the Turtles Back the daughter was born just normal she wasn’t crooked or straight (pg. 41).

I disagree with Kaitlyn's statement, yes bad people can change their ways, and when they do that they will become a straight minded people. There are two categories, one is either one or the other and they can switch back and fourth, but you cant be both.

I agree with Kaitlyn Davidson's views. Especially her view on how people can change from crooked to straight and vice versa.

For the most part, almost everyone in this world are one of two things, either crooked or straight minded. In the story, The World on the Turtles Back, the left and right handed twins are either straight or crooked, and they are suppose to represent humanity (pg.41). Some peoples personality makes them either crooked or "perfect". Its the way people are, and theirs no changing what one feels. The author of this story most likely saw the different patterns of peoples nature and put it into a mythical story separating the two groups.

I disagree with Adam because i believe that all people are born with both good and evil within them. People may choose to embrace one side more than the other, but that doesn't mean that the other extreme is not still within their being.

In my opinion, I agree with this view on human nature. I agree because no person on this earth is truly evil or purely good. In the story, the left twin represented crookedness or total evil. On the opposite side, the right handed twin represented straightness, or honesty. Together they made humanity, half good, and half evil. (pg. 41)

I disagree because in the human nature everyone is on track. The righthand twin was the so called normal twin nobody is normal and the lefthand twin was evil and always did what he wasn't supposed to but later in the story you learn that the grandma favor the left hand because they seem just a like.On pg 44 the righthand twin has to kill his brother and he had to think out the box and when he did he returned home and told his grandma and she lost it and got upset and the right hand lost it and killed her and cut off her head and they say her head is the moon kinda but there is no proof of this things they say it's a reason for everything but nobody knows the reason behind the earth and how it was born.

I agree with this view on human nature. Most people in life end up to be normal. Other people can end up to be 'crooked.' But this does not happen as soon as you are born. This happens thought your life, and through the things you experience.
